Jess Scheider is a visual artist living in her hometown of Boise, Idaho, where she graduated with a BFA in Drawing & Painting from Boise State University in 2020. Her work is inspired by many hours spent outdoors in the Pacific Northwest, meditating on the perseverance of nature and the unlikely ways life has continued to pulse onward, despite the cultural persistence of human dominion over nature.
The detailed textures that inhabit the surfaces of Jess’s paintings are inspired by her own interactions with the natural world, ranging from the mundane to the profound- be it the intricate patterning of lichen across ancient rock, the structure of a hornets nest blown down by the wind, or most recently, the vivid coloring of Sockeye Salmon during spawning season.
Jess’s work is guided by an innate desire to honor the land and its many teachings, forging a connection to those who came before, and those who are yet to arrive. Within these explorations, issues of perception, adaptation and reclamation rise to the surface.
